Now if only they pledged to donate 50% of its profits to NOLA redevelopment, we might be getting somewhere...
I was happy until I read "Randy Newman".

I'm still happy about the traditional animation thing. That was just kind of the final blow for me with the company, but Roy Disney really has managed to save a lot of things.
wow. This ought to be interesting.

how did i miss the petition???? i've been ranting about this for years. geez... and ironically, this is the story (the frog princess) was the story i won my first writing award with. who knew.

Perhaps that is why 'blacks' were not allowed to study or learn to write back in the days of not-so-yore....lest the masters be assailed by a multitude of sharp-pointed fountain pens...ouch! Wonder why people have to be 'petitioned' to do what has always been right.
p.s. why didn't i receive the petition? I may be on the wrong side of the border, but, I dare say, I'm on the right side of the border as far as the nation of Humanity is concerned. We globalise politics, culture, media, economics...tis about time we globalise Activism eh.

Too cool! I always wondered why they didn't have black princesses. I imagine this is going to be great for the little girls who don't think they're pretty (like on the film you posted... I think it was called Black Like Me...). If they only see white princesses how can these little girls identify? No wonder they think they're not pretty if they have dark skin and curly hair. I wasn't aware of the petition but I guess that makes sense. I wonder if white people were able to sign the petition?

I hope that Maddy is my girl's favorite princess!
i posted a brief thing about this in one of my news posts. i'm glad someone made a post dedicated to it though. i am really excited about having the old disney back, and really amazed that they finally made a black princess. we need some flava. and thank god they did not name her shaquita.

Roxanne - I Agree! Let's put the money where the mouth is....

Tony - Just for you Man :-)

AM - You best be gettin' royalties Girl!!

Ed - You make too much sense. Globalize Activism indeed!

Michelle - I actually got the petition from one of my white friends...isn't that ironic?

CW - Yours and a lot of little one's I hope :-)

Ruiner - Interesting you say that because a lot of my friends have a problem with the name Maddy...likening it to a slave name Addy...as opposed to something more regal/majestic, like Beauty or Jasmine. And I have a feeling that won't be the last I hear on that point.

LMAO! I'm REALLY glad about the no Shaquita part as well!

I LOVE the name Addy and hadn't heard of it being a slave name. Actually my precious little God-Child's name is Maddy and she's whiter than white! I always thought Jasmine and Beauty were silly names for a princess. Especially Beauty... Too unrealistic for me and my kids because they couldn't believe that anyone would name their child Beauty.

Ya know Michelle, I think some folks will find something to complain about in Any situation...you just can't please everybody..which is sad, because it takes away from the "specialness" of the whole thing. And the Maddy's I know are "whiter than white" as well :-)
I've always heard Maddy as short for Madeleine and Addy as short for Adelle or Adelaide- I would have never equated the name with being a racial slight! In fact, my first thought was thank God they gave her a common name instead of one of the ridiculous names they usually use!
[this is good]
My God-Daughter's name is really Madeline. I agree with you, I never think about these things being racial slights but then again, we're white and some people would consider us to be "not in touch" culturally speaking (although I KNOW you're not because of your family background). I just wish people would lighten up on these subjects (so silly to me to worry about a name - BUT I hate Shaquita!).
[this is good]
I KNOW you're right about taking away from the specialness of it! I wish everyone can just enjoy the cultural break-through:)

i recently heard about this and i think it great!
