"How can I, a young Black man, understand how to worship, except if a man teaches me?"
"Take a Black Male to Worship Day" 76.28.09
The Black Star Project's Million Father Movement is partnering with the most dynamic force in the Black community--the Black church! On Sunday, June 28, 2009, we are asking older men to guide younger men towards spirituality, fatherhood, prosperity and high-quality family living. How can they know, except that some man would guide them? (Acts 8:31 )
"Take a Black Male to Worship" at your faith-based institution on your day of worship nearest to Sunday, June 28, 2009
We are especially asking fathers, grandfathers, foster fathers, stepfathers, uncles, cousins, big brothers, mentors, deacons, trustees, male choir members, significant male caregivers and family friends to join The Black Star Project in this movement. Women and men of all ethnicities are also encouraged to "Take a Black Male to Worship Day." This movement of men and women, spirits and ideas, is designed to help save the lives and the spirits of young Black males and is being led by Black churches, mosques, temples and synagogues across America.
Please ask your faith leader to ensure that your faith-based institution participates in this event. If you wish to participate in or lead the effort in your city or in your congregation on Sunday, June 28, 2009, (or your day of worship near this date):

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Hebrews 11 - Examples of Faith to Help the Discouraged

My youngest had been having issues in preschool. Jeremiah is extremely smart and curious. As a Capricorn, he is an old soul, never smiled much as a baby, and was genuinely offended by "baby talk." I've always thought that maybe his soul was recycled too fast, or that whatever special kiss the angels gives the babies before they are born, to make them forget everything, just wasn't enough for Jeremiah. He's four now but only a couple of inches and 5 pounds less than his older brother D'Shan who is twice his age. Very intimidating to the other kids.....
He's been trying so very hard this week to have "good days" at school. His teachers have instituted a positive reinforcement program for him: Each day he does well, is a good friend and does not get sent to timeout, he gets to color in a star on his special chart. After 5 stars, the teacher will buy him a McDonald's Happy Meal for lunch. (Last night, I was so tired, I wanted to pick up dinner at McDonald's and Jeremiah says "No Mommy, Not until I get 5 stars, and THEN my teacher will buy it for me. I was impressed...and found the energy to get in the kitchen)
We were discussing his excellent behavior last night during said dinner (Tuna Helper/Garlic Bread), and I told him that I knew he could do it...that I really Believed in Him. He says, "I Believe in Myself!" and then breaks out into his impersonation of Lena Horne singing the "Believe in Yourself" from the Wiz. "Believe in Yourself....HEY! If you Believe in Yourself !! HEY!" I was ROLLIN'!!! It was Adorable and Heeelarious!!!!
But we are all so very proud of him. Before storytime, each of the boys gets 3 Cheers - Hip Hip Hoorays for everything they accomplished during the day. It's so fun. Last night I even got Hip Hip Hoorayed....for being the Best Mommy Ever of course :-)
Today, if things go well, he will receive his 5th star.
