Who has been the most surprising player so far in the 2007 NFL season?
Brett Favre is having a Renaissance Season!
I wasn't really a football fan before this season. I mean, of course I'm a Bears fan, but that's genetic for Chicagoans right? However, participating in my office's Fantasy League has definitely sparked my interest in the game. It's definitely more enjoyable when you have someone to root for.
I drafted Drew Brees for my QuarterBack and Brett Favre as a Reserve. I started Drew in the first 3 weeks and Lost every week!! All while I benched Favre, who is out there playing the games of his life!!! I finally gave up on Brees and brought in Brett and was Finally able to break my losing streak in week 4 and, even with the GB loss to Chicago last night (sweet rivalry), he still garnered me 17 points this week and I'm set to be 2-3 (just like Da Bears, go Me!).
Hopefully, Brees will not disappoint in Week 7 when I am forced to bring him back in on Favre's bye week.
What song do you wish would never show up on a karaoke list?
Karaoke Staple: Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive
Everyone Butchers It! Especially when they're drunk...Karaoke means sing when drunk right?
What words make you giggle (no matter how old you are)?

Do you believe there is intelligent life on other planets?
I may be vain, but not vain enough to believe that Earthlings are the only species to survive on a planet and thrive and progress. Or that Our planet is the Only Planet out of All the billions of planets in all of the billions of galaxies that could possibly exist. That's one of the issues I have with some religions...that Creation is presented from the limited perspective of Earth Creation (One Heaven One Earth) and not Universe Creation. That is never going to change either, because it would mean rebuilding the foundations of religions from the ground up and most folks are more than happy to believe what they've always believed (spiritually) as opposed to going through the work of incorporating New Knowledge to create their own Belief System and using it to find their own Truth(s). (but that's a rant for another post)
I am more apt to believe that we are the least intelligent as we have yet to even discover the other intelligent life On the other planets. Frankly, I don't think we'd know it if it came and slapped us in the face.
There is a song in one of my favorite musicals She Loves Me entitled Perspective. If you are unfamiliar with the show, the plot revolves around two employees of a small Budapest shop (Maraczek's Parfumerie) who are constantly at odds with each other at work, unaware that each is the other's secret pen pal (a 60's musical version of You've Got Mail).
Mr. Maraczek, the boss of a parfumerie, is extremely crass in his treatment of one of the other employees, Ladislav Sipos. Sipos is firm on his creed, "Do not lose your job" and he's very concerned with having a true "perspective" at work. AnyWay....this QoTD made me think of this song, specifically the excerpt from Perspective:
I am only one of several in a rather small parfumerie.
Which is only one of several in this city.
Which is one of many cities in this country which
Is only one
Of many countries
Which are on this continent
Which is only one of seven on this not so special planet
Which is one of several in our solar system
Which is only one of many solar systems
In this vast, and inconievable affair, that is the universe
Sooooooo
In this infinite, incomprehensible scheme
If a dot called Maraczek should scream
At a speck called Sipos
What on Earth does it matter?
Call me fool,
That's alright with me.
Here's my rule,
Never disagree.
Where's my pride?
Swallowed long ago.
Deep inside,
Where it doesn't show.
Just maintain a true perspective
And it's easy to avoid a clash of wills
Just maintain a true perspective.
And make sure you're well supplied with stomach pills.
Let me put it bluntly,
I'm a coward.
With a wife and children to support.
Actually my creed is sort and simple
Five essential words Georg:
Do not Lose Your job!
What are some charitable causes that you support or would like to support?
I don’t go to church (at least not any one with any regularity) so I give my 10% to charities. At least one per paycheck and it’s not always 10%. Sometimes it’s only $25 sometimes $10, but if I’m led to give more I do.
I give to charities that have helped me and my family in the past. Ada S. McKinley (gave me free childcare, a free turkey, a free live Christmas Tree and presents for my kids during one of my worst years) and the Food Bank Council.
I also support art, theatre and music programs for youth like the Macy Gray Music Academy. Those types of programs gave a only child like me an extended family and opened a world of opportunities. And of course I donate to the Grand Rapids Community Foundation and National Public Radio. Speaking of which, if I hear of a cause on NPR that strikes a chord with me, I’ll usually give to that organization as well. The latest of which was the Innocence Project which provides DNA testing, resources and support for wrongly convicted people. I also give to Amnesty International.
Sounds altruistic doesn’t it? Not purely. I give to any foundation Spear Headed by any of my favorite celebrities or affiliated with Community Leaders (e.g. Meijer, DeVos), in the hopes that I get invitations to their black tie benefit galas. And I do! Can’t afford to attend most of them, but the invitation is Nice.
I do most of my donations through Network For Good which makes it easier at tax time (Northerngeek)
Oh...and here's my Favorite Thing to Give
Video: Show us a clip of a TV show you miss.
Most of today’s kids only know Robert Wagner as Number 2 in the Austin Power’s Trilogy but I remember him as the dashing Self made Millionaire Jonathan Hart married to the Gorgeous Jennifer Hart (Stefanie Powers)
I was a huge Fan of not only Hart to Hart but also of Wagner and Powers. I’ll never forget Mom taking me to see both of them perform in Love Letters. I think that just melded into my subconscious how real romance and marriage would be but nothing I lived ever seemed to compare to the Harts.
My favorite episode is when Freeway’s dog food is mistakenly swapped for pate that has been laced with drugs and you watch him go through withdrawal.

I Really DID make this My Catch Phrase … I LOVE THIS
Another late QotD: Hey! I do it My Way in my Own Time
I have a TON of favorite poems…but this particular one I had to get framed. It is Funeral Blues by W.H. Auden and I first heard it read by John Hannah in the movie Four Weddings and a Funeral...
Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.
Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crêpe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

How have people mispronounced your name? How is it supposed to sound?
Submitted by Lorie.
Painfully often. The mispronunciation I hate the most is Guinevere...it sounds so ignorant because it is SOOO NOT my name
It is pronounced JEH-neh-veev but my Mom sometimes uses the French pronunciation ZHAWN-vee-EHV
